1. Introduction
Before you start reading
manual !
This manual is dedicated
for all Time Servers manufactured by Elproma including:
NTS-3000, NTS-4000,
NTS-5000, NTS-7000, NTS-9000 and NTS-dialup
called later shrtly "NTS-xxxx". Some
model related differences are
clearly highlighted.
The NTS Network Time Server
NTS-xxxx provides a high precision time directly to TCP/IP
networks using
NTP (Network Time Protocol RFC 1305) and
SNTP (Simple Network Time Protocol RFC 2030). It
synchronizes time of any NTP or SNTP clients running on
remote PC’s. It supports majority of current popular
operating systems including: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS/X, Linux,
Free BSD, HP-UX, IBM AIX, IBM AS/400, SUN Solaris and
many other UNIX family systems. It can synchronize
simultaneously over 10,000 servers, workstations,
routers and other devices supporting NTP or SNTP
clients. NTS-xxxx provides accurate time via 2xLAN
(10/100Mbps Ethernet) as well as via various of I/O
sync standards including: IRIG-B*, 1PPS.
The accurate
UTC time is powered by
numerous time sources including: double (A/B) redundant antenna system
(each supports
GPS and/or 2nd extra
pattern including:
DCF77,
or
GLONASS,
SBAS, EGNOS, WAAS, or
even the
GALILEO in a near
future) external 1PPS input or external
IRIG-B*. Unit includes internal:

for time backup in case of
GPS receiving
problems or failure. Special DCF77* RF-AM* time pattern
support is available for Central Europe and Germany.
NTS–xxxx distributes UTC reference time
to 2 isolated (not routed) sub-networks: LAN1, LAN2.
All time and satellite informations can be traced on
front panel 2x20 LCD display. More detailed statistic
is available by remote NTP software utilities (”ntpq”,
”ntpdc”), setup utility or other software interfaces
like: WWW, TELNET, SSH, SNMP. NTS–xxxx can operate in
standard or special NTP authentication mode protected
by MD5 algorithms. Unit supports broadcast, manycast,
multicast and client/server NTP modes.
Special fast sync startup mode of
NTP has been implemented to reduce unsynchronized time
after powering up products which has no battery powered
up RTC clocks.
NTS–xxxx is ready to work with any
SYSLOG or SNMP (MIB2) server. It let friendly warn on
any unexpected situation that may happen in your time
synchronized network.
NTS-xxxx is designed to operate without
ventilators and fans. Metal housing is an important
part of NTS–xxxx natural cooling system designed in
such way that unit can be located in the neighborhood
of any device working inside rack19 mount frame.
A true novelty
is an option to create cascade NTS servers where one
can simulate an antenna for the other. This
functionality enables time synchronization of secured
LANs with official time from NTP servers available
publicly on line in Internet.
